the kitchen chronicles – The Reveal

Finally!  The Reveal
I had to look back at my very first Kitchen Chronicles post to figure out when it all started…. January 20th. Wow, it really has been a long time.  But it was all worth it.  Brand new everything, including new appliances, but if I needed to fix them, it’s easy to find appliance parts in Canada – and the US!

Before we begin, I have to give my sincerest thanks to Mr. Charming for all his hard work. Day after day, weekend after weekend of hard work and determination.  I can’t thank him enough.

Another very important thank you goes out to my mother, who was here helping out every weekend. From getting down and dirty with the construction to doing laundry and supplying us with muffins and home cooked meals, it was all a huge help and very much appreciated.  Thanks Mom!

So now………………. come on in, and take a closer look.

Oh, and a shout out to my kids who came home when the kitchen looked like this and asked, “hey Mom, what’s for dinner ?”   Thanks kids!  Ya knows I loves ya!

  5. I have a question for you...how wide is the overhang on your island? And how thick is your granite? I ask because, when we put in our granite counters, we kept getting conflicting advice on whether or not we needed corbels to help support it. I see you don't have any...

  72. I LOVE your kitchen. A friend pointed me to your site and I fell in love. I have been playing with ideas for our kitchen that includes bead board accents. I was wondering what you did to the bead board above the upper cabinets and below the ceiling? Why does it look different. I searched your chronicles and couldn't find the answer.... I like the contrast of this look vs the back splash.

  88. You kitchen looks AMAZING!!! My husband and I started renovating out kitchen on a budget. I wish I found your blog a long time ago. I would of totally would of ordered new doors in MDF if I had known...we sanded ours and place trim around the door. We are happy with the outcome and getting ready to paint. Where did you purchase the Rustoleum Heirloom White and who makes it? Is it a paint or spray?

    Your kitchen gives me inspiration!

    ReplyDelete
  89. To Angela who asked a question about Heirloom White Paint ~

The Heirloom White you asked about is made by Rustoleum. Rustoleum is the brand name and can be found pretty much anywhere, but Home Depot for sure.
I used Spray because I really love spray paints! Nothing gives you a smoother finish. Although I had a ton of cupboards and realized that the spray was not the most economial way to do it, I still think the smooth finish was also worth it.
Rustolem does have the same colour in a paint can if you wish to do it that way. Again you can find this all at Home Depot.
It really is one of my favorite colors. And the spray is very durable.

If you have any other questions please email me directly so I have your email address!
    Thanks
    Lisa

LOVE your kitchen! and I absolutely HAVE to have that faucet, I've been looking for a single lever, oil rubbed bronze, goose neck faucet for years and haven't seen what I need until I saw yours. Please tell me what it is - and hopefully I can still get one . . .

  91. Love your kitchen. Can you tell us the name/manuafactur of the granite? Thanks

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hi Maggie. The name of the granite is Delicatus. There are a few color versions of this granite but I never got another name for it. It could be Juparana Delicatus.
      Thanks

  96. Very beautiful! I know the kitchen is mainly heirloom white (one of my favorite colors) but what is the yellow/beige sort of color at the end of the room that goes into the dining room? Also what glaze did you use on the front of the heirloom white cabinets and what color and glaze on the island? I want to copy it as exact as I can get it! Thanks so much.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The color you see in the dining area of the kitchen is Benjamin Moore's Straw Hat. The glaze used on the cabinets was a custom glaze I mixed myself with 4 parts glazing medium and one part brown paint (that I already had) Couldn't tell you the name of it as it is long gone. The island was simply painted black. It was previously painted red and when I painted it black I distressed the edges so that some red would show through. There is no glaze on the island. Thanks, Lisa

  97. Your cabinets are MDF....does that mean laminate too? Mine are such and I want to paint/glaze them but am not sure. I know they can be painted, which I know I will do but would love to do the glazing but not sure about that part.

    2. You can definitely paint laminate and glaze it. Glazing is very easy to do and the glaze is a slow drying medium with allows you time to make sure you get it the way you like. If you don't like it, wipe it off, paint the glaze on again and work at it some more. Always start with a practice piece first. I use practice boards for any new painting technique, so that I know what to do on the finished piece.

  98. Absolutely stunning! We are redoing a kitchen at a piece of property we just purchased. I never was a real fan of white cupboards but now have changed my mind! Question- Did you make the awning or did you purchase it? This would be perfect in the little house on the lake.
