I’ll never ‘tire’ of these planters!
My summer flowers bloomed beautifully in these tires and I couldn’t wait to plant for fall.
These planters have been such fun for me. I think I’ll try something for winter too!

Too cute! I saw something like this at the Farmers market here. They sat them down and they made them look like flowers by cutting them. Then painted it really cute and added flowers!

ReplyDeleteThose look amazing! When I was little my grandma had some tires she spray painted white then cut the tops of them & laid them down flat with flowers planted inside!

When I saw your blog title I thought it was going to be a tire that is cut and turned inside out. We actually had those back in the 1970's but your tires are really pretty! I love this idea! Cudo's to you for such a great upcycling idea! Thanks so much

ReplyDeleteWell, I guess it works. Also, it will help protect the environment since tires can be a great cause of pollution. It does not decompose and burning it is a health hazzard.

Which type of flowers do you use, the ones I planted died fairly quickly :( They also didnt look as filled in as yours, maybe I put too much soil? (or not enough?) And suggestions?
ReplyDeleteHello Janice. I don't think its really about the type of flower I planted as much as it is the watering! These tires hold a lot of heat from the day time and will dry out extremely fast. Because the tire is always warm and fairly shallow of soil, you really need to keep on top of it with water. I put soil right up to the top. Get as much as you can get in there. In the summer I plant sweet potato vines and they grow like crazy in the tires and the roots get huge, but they still do well in that shallow holder. Maybe just monitor the water daily. Hopefully that helps
