A Home away from Home

I’d like to introduce you to the main reason I haven’t posted much lately. Recently we purchased a house in Florida.  This is a project far from my home but close to my heart.   A couple of trips and  some hard work and we have something I’ve managed to become very attached to. There was a lot going in a very few short days, but I only managed to pick up the camera a few times to take these shots.
From the outside this was the way we found it…

…and this is how we left it, (except for the outside light that hadn’t been put up yet)

What we found when we arrived was a beautiful house that had been neglected. What we left with, was a sense of accomplishment, some new friends and a home with its charm recaptured.

It took a hard working landscaper 2 full days to get it all back into shape.

In keeping with the total neglect of this house here is what the pool looked like.

The kitchen needed updating.  The blue countertop and the outdated hardware were changed. The walls were painted and some new light fixtures were added.

At the end of the day, we accomplished what we had set out to, making this once beautiful home beautiful once again.

  1. Very pretty! Is this a second home or a fulltime home for you? Heard there are many bargains to be had in Florida. Neighbor of mine said condos in Orlando were going for $20,000.

    1. This is a second home that will be rented for a while, until one day we decide to use it for ourselves. Wish that day was now!

  5. OMG, you've done an amazing job on this home. It looks like it was left uncared for, for some time. What a wonderful transformation. You must feel so accomplished now that you have restored it back to it's grandness.

Thanks for sharing, make me feel like taking a look at how I can improve my own home,

    1. Hi Kellie
Looking for something long term. A nice family who will take care of my lovely home for some time until we decide to stop renting. (Quite honestly I could pack a bag and move in right now if I could)

  10. This is awesome! My husband and I have considered buying a second home in the Orlando area and do short term rentals while we are not using it. Wish we could buy while prices are low, but not yet. :(

  14. HI Lisa,

My parents go down to Florida every year for 4-5 weeks in March/April, but would really like to stay longer if possible. When you say long term renters, is it for annual rental or montly rental. They would like to stay for 2-3 months next year. Also, gulf side or Atlantic side? Sorry for all the questions, but they just got back Friday night and my dad was already asking us to start checking on-line for them....thanks
