A client of mine contacted me recently with a request to do another desk for her. I had previously done the Viridian Green Desk for Kari and now she wanted something for a small nook her home to write her new children’s book. Kari and her sister have one children’s book already published and she’ll be using this desk to pen a new one. Kari located the desk herself and asked me to repaint it for her. As cute as this desk is, it was in terrible condition. I don’t believe I’ve ever come across a piece with so many coats of paint on it…(well maybe I have). So many, in fact, that the paint was literally flaking off in chunks.
Every time I thought I had it all sanded down, more fell off.
It took quite a bit of sanding to get the painted areas to down to the raw wood level.
This desk needed at least 3 good coats of primer/sealer. After letting each coat thoroughly dry overnight, I sanded down the 3rd coat of primer to a nice smooth finish.
Ok, so here’s the thing… I have no more pictures of the actual makeover. Somewhere between renovations in my house, working, and doing this desk, I actually forgot to take pictures.
Terrible. I know. Thankfully it’s nothing that you haven’t already seen as far as painting with Heirloom White and glazing with the very last of my custom mixed brown glaze. So yada, yada, yada, and the desk is complete! I’m actually very fond of this little darling.
It had a lot of nicks and dents in it, so with a light distressing the imperfections were made to look like they belonged there.
Hopefully this little desk with inspire Kari with her new book the way it inspired me to paint it for her.
