Sock Snowman & Santa

With so much to do in so little time I was looking for a simple craft to whip up this holiday season.

This craft is incredibly easy and really fun to do.  And with a very short list of supplies, you can round up what you need in a jiff.

I guess I should say, Sock Snowpeople. Cause our little Snowman has found himself a girl.

I’ve seen some really cute sock snowmen out there and wanted a couple of my own. You can most certainly use socks you have already, but since I didn’t own any very colourful socks, I bought 3 pairs of seasonal socks and 3 long white tube socks.  The longer the white tube socks are the taller your snowman will be.

Each snowman will take one tube sock and one patterned sock.  Cut the tube sock just above the heel. 

Put the heel part aside and turn the tube inside out.  Wrap one of the cut ends tightly with an elastic band, then turn it back right side out.

Fill with rice (buy the cheapest you can find).  Make sure you pat the rice down as you are filling it It will hold quite a bit.

Fasten the top with an elastic.  Try to get as close to the top as possible. If you have this much excess, trim it off.

Add another elastic  that will separate the head from the body.

Cut your patterned sock the same way you cut the tube sock, just above the heel.  NOTE:  If you need a longer piece and your patterned sock doesn’t have a definite heel, you can use the heel like I did here for the Santa. Fit the tube part of the patterned sock over the body of the snowman.
I liked the way this red sock looked and felt inside out so I decided to use it that way.


For the fleece trim on the top and bottom of the lady and around the middle of Santa… simply cut little rings off the spare parts of your sock and turn inside out.

Turned inside out, as seen below. Use these little bands for the trimmings for hats, and sweaters.

You can leave the hats plain with a pompom or you can cut the top into a fringe.  Tie the fringe off with ribbon or twine.

Tie off the tip of the hat if you wish.  Use whatever you have, twine or ribbon, or glue a pompom on.

For Santa’s beard, I cut a piece of sock into a beard and glued it on with the rough side (inside) out.  The little black piece of ribbon was glued on so black would show through his mouth.

Basically that’s all the instruction you need.  Dressing these little cuties is the fun part and you can use whatever you have.

Finishing touches:  toothpicks coloured orange for the noses, Felt scarf, Googlie eyes or button eyes, ribbon, buttons, pompoms.

I have a craft box that looks something like this so I had lots to choose from.

Anything that was attached was hot glued with a glue gun.

Put them together they make the cutest little group.

And I swear… no matter where I took these pictures from their eyes followed me! 

I had so much fun making these little snow people.  I fell more in love with them by the minute.

They make the cutest couple!
